All members of our clinical team are patient, friendly and have a person-centred approach to helping your child develop confidence whilst at the dentist. We love to work with children and provide the positive reinforcement they need to stay on track with their oral health maintenance as they start to become more independent with their oral care.
Your child’s dentist appointments aren’t just about your child, they’re about you, their parent or guardian too. By helping you understand how to meet your child’s needs at home, we know you’ll feel more empowered when challenging situations occur (such as getting them to brush for the right amount of time or eat the right kind of foods).
If you’re struggling to communicate with your child when it comes to helping them grasp the importance of oral care as they grow up, we’re here to help you find the right ways of doing so.
What happens during my child’s first appointment?
Your child’s first time in a dental practice may feel unnerving, with the new sights, smells and people to take in. It’s often the case that children won’t open their mouths, or that they struggle to settle in the dentist’s chair. Therefore, their first appointment is a valuable occasion to simply get them accustomed to what it’s like to be in a clinical setting. If we are able to examine their mouths, we will check their soft tissues and flag up issues that could affect their dental health, such as whether they are breastfed or bottle-fed.
What do you look for when you examine my child’s mouth?
Is my child likely to be very nervous during their appointment?
New experiences can be difficult for children. However, making sure the space they’re in feels safe to them will nurture feelings of security and confidence. We always make sure the practice feels like a fun and welcoming place to be, and we believe a bit of laughter goes a long way.
At Paddock Dental Centre we offer a wide range of routine and specialist dental care to ensure we can look after all your oral health and cosmetic requirements.
