Hygienist visits are just as essential as dental check-ups, ensuring your gums are healthy enough to support the function and aesthetic of your teeth. Without healthy gums, you could become vulnerable to gum disease, a condition whereby the gums begin to become swollen, sore and infected. Without treatment, gum disease can eventually cause tooth loss, as well as other health condition like heart disease.
Hygienist visits aren’t just about carrying out an examination of your gums. They’re an opportunity to learn about how best to care for your mouth. During your appointment, we can advise you on how your diet affects your gum health, and show you how to get the best use out of brushing and flossing aids.
Everything we do for our patients is completely tailored to their precise needs. Using state-of-the-art diagnostic technology, we can identify any gum-related problems and develop a plan to provide the treatment you need. It’s all about getting to know you and your smile.
How to brush
What can I expect from treatment?
The treatment we suggest will depend on how advanced gum disease has progressed. Some patients may simply need several cleanings (known in the world of dentistry as a ‘scale and polish’) to remove the plaque and tartar that is inflaming their gum line. Others may need more involved treatment to address severe deterioration of the gum and bone beneath it.
However complex your needs are, rest assured that we’re here to nurse your mouth back to health, and help you to prevent further problems with your gums.
How can professional hygienist cleanings benefit me?
The most important benefit of having your teeth routinely cleaned by the hygienist is that your oral health will be looked after. However, the benefits don’t stop there. Cleaning will freshen your breath and remove dark staining that has occurred.
How often do I need to see the hygienist?
The number of yearly visits will depend on the health of your mouth and your risk factors for gum disease. If you are a smoker or you have a history of gum disease, we are likely to advise you to come two or three times a year. Meanwhile, patients with healthy gums and low risk factors may only need to attend once a year. Once we have examined you, we can let you know how often you should be coming in to see us.
At Paddock Dental Centre we offer a wide range of routine and specialist dental care to ensure we can look after all your oral health and cosmetic requirements.
